The aim of this course is to improve the confidence of those veterinarians who sometimes (or always) feel out of their depth when performing routine abdominal surgical procedures in small animal practice. The first day will be lecture based and cover a variety of clinical problems that can pose challenges for less experienced, and even quite experienced, surgeons.
The practical day will allow candidates to perform fundamental procedures required for abdominal surgery ranging from entering the abdomen safely, tying secure ligatures, isolating organs within the abdomen and developing a systematic approach to exploration of the abdominal cavity. Specific procedures will be performed ranging from intestinal resection anastomosis, gastric resection and gastropexy techniques to splenectomy and liver resection techniques. The focus of the practical day will be on procedures that are performed in general practice.
Who is it for?
Small animal clinicians.
