COURSE DESCRIPTION
Colic and respiratory problems are amongst the most frequently encountered conditions in equine practice and diagnosing a specific disease can at times be challenging. This 2-day practical course is suitable for veterinarians from mixed and equine practice who are keen to update their knowledge and especially the practical skills on how to work-up and treat horses with gastrointestinal or respiratory conditions. A panel of internationally renowned specialists will be presenting the following highly illustrated lectures in English (with Polish translation and German moderation) in the mornings:
Risk Factors for and Causes of Colic
Dealing with a Medical Colic
Making the Decision for Surgery
Acute Diarrhea – Won’t it ultimately stop?
Weight Loss – More than lack of feed?
Review of Dental Care in Horses
Structure and Clinical Examination of the Equine Upper Respiratory Tract
The Nasal Passages, Pharynx & Larynx
The Sinuses & Guttural Pouches
Diagnostics of Lower Respiratory Tract Conditions
Conditions of the Lower Respiratory Tract & Thorax
Open and frank discussions are encouraged and the speakers will share their personal experiences (successes and failures) with attendees.
In the afternoon, two 3 ½ -hour practical sessions will give delegates plenty of opportunity to put theory into practice on live horses and cadaver specimens and to ask questions in small groups (2 – 5 delegates), all under the supervision of specialists. The following practical sessions will be covered during the course:
Nasogastric Intubation under Endoscopic Guidance
Abdominal Ultrasonography
Abdominocentesis Techniques & Colic Case-based Discussions
