Start time: 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM
Duration: 6 hour(s)

Infectious diseases are commonly seen in practice, but new diseases are frequently emerging and several well know diseases re-emerging. This course aims to provide a case-based and practical update on new or uncommon diseases that are becoming more prevalent, and to discuss the best approaches to diagnosis and case management.

With the PETS travel scheme many animals are being imported or returning to the UK having travelled to areas with diseases not usually seen here. As a result, infectious diseases such as leishmanial, Babesia and Ehrlichia are being seen more commonly and cases have been reported in non-travelled animals, suggesting they may be becoming established in the UK.

The course will cover each of these imported diseases in-depth, before looking at diseases present in the UK which are becoming increasingly recognised, particularly Lyme disease, Angiostrongylus and Alabama rot. We will also discuss the pros and cons of the many diagnostic tests available.

The five key things delegates will learn from this course are:
* What endemic diseases are emerging and why
* Which diagnostic tests are best for specific diseases
* Understanding the PETS scheme and how to provide owners with the best preventative advise during travel
* Knowledge of endemic emerging diseases including Lyme disease, Alabama rot and Angiostrongylus
* Knowledge of imported diseases including Leishmaniosis, Babesia and Ehrlichia

Who is it for?
