Gastroenterology is a large field of internal medicine, which encompasses other specialities such as oncology, immunology, microbiology and nutrition. In this update on gastroenterology, the diagnostic approach and treatment options for various gut disorders will be discussed.
This will include discussion about the pathophysiology of certain clinical manifestations of gut disease (e.g. regurgitation, ileus), as well as non-gastrointestinal disorders which can also cause alimentary tract signs (e.g. pancreatic disease). Case-based material will be used to highlight the challenges of diagnosing and managing common yet complex disorders such as inflammatory bowel disease and pancreatitis

Isuru Gajanayake<br /> <br /> Isuru graduated from the University of Sydney with a Bachelor of Veterinary Science. After working in general practice in Australia and England, he completed a combined residency in Internal Medicine and Clinical Nutrition at the Royal Veterinary College (London). Isuru is now a recognised specialist in Small Animal Internal Medicine (American, European and RCVS) and Small Animal Nutrition (American).
