This course will look at the nurse’s role in dealing with common small animal emergencies including GDV, dyspnoeic animals, RTA\'s, poisoning, the caesarean patient etc.
Specific areas to be covered
By the end of the course the delegates will be able to:
· Understand and be able to carry out effective preparation for emergency patients
· Assemble & prepare equipment & materials necessary for emergencies
· Understand the concept of triage and perform triage in single patients and groups of
patients
· Perform a primary survey, major body system assessment and record the findings
· Understand the need for re-assessment and monitoring
· Perform monitoring of respiratory, cardiovascular and central nervous systems
· Recognise immediately life-threatening syndromes and institute emergency therapy
· Be confident in the anaesthesia and analgesia of specific conditions
· Assist in a variety of emergency procedures
· Understand and perform basic life support
