The College of Animal Welfare

Provider: The College of Animal Welfare

This entry-level course is dedicated to every veterinary surgeon or veterinary nurse who has ever seen the appointment slot marked “behaviour” and wondered what to do. It is also recommended for any animal lover who’s looking to understand their new best friend!
Basic dog behaviour issues are a common reason for a client to make an appointment – and whether you are a vet, a nurse, or a dog owner, this is a course that will serve as a useful foundation in dealing with dog behaviour.
By learning about the origins of the dog, we better understand their behaviour. By understanding how your client’s best friend develops, we can have a better idea of how to relate to them using their natural abilities. By discovering how they learn, we find out how best to teach them.
Understanding basic dog behaviour is vital for you if you are living or working with dogs. It is even more important if you are advising owners on basic training matters.

On this course you will look how the dog has evolved into what it is today. Using this knowledge, we will discuss ways of preventing and solving basic behavioural issues. Case studies will be used throughout the course to reinforce what you have learned.

Delegates will consider:
* Evolution of the dog
* How dogs learn
* Breed differences and traits
* Puppy development and socialisation
* Common behavioural problems
* Ground Rules
* Case studies

Who is it for?

This is an entry-level course which would suit veterinary surgeons, veterinary nurses, or animal lovers who are looking to develop an interest in dog behaviour. You will gain the knowledge needed to give advice on basic puppy and dog training issues.
