This course provides a practical introduction to laparoscopy and minimally invasive surgery with the emphasis on basic laparoscopic techniques that can be performed in first opinion practice. The advantages and disadvantages of minimally invasive procedures will be discussed and there will be a brief overview of instrumentation and instrument handling techniques followed by more detailed discussion of laparoscopic principles, the approach to the abdomen and laparoscopic organ biopsies. The use of electrosurgery and other haemostatic techniques in minimally invasive surgery will be covered on day two followed by detailed instruction on laparoscopic ovariectomy and ovariohysterectomy using cadavers.

-Detailed explanation and examination of instrumentation
-Minimally invasive sugery in general practice- profitability
-Practical skills tests using laparoscopic trainers
-Cadaver practical- Approach to the abdomen, exploratory laparoscopy, organ biopsies, laparoscopic ovarietomy, ovariohysterectomy, gastropexy etc
