Disease of the liver and pancreas are commonly encountered in dogs and cats and the nurse's role is vital to their successful management. This course will begin by providing an overview of the different liver and pancreatic disease you will encounter in practice and we will discuss the rationale behind laboratory testing and diagnostic imaging to investigate these cases. For instance, why do so many animals have elevated liver enzymes on pre-operative blood samples and should they be treated? We will discuss the important nursing considerations to optimize recovery, including drugs, diet and other supportive therapy. The drugs commonly used when treating dogs and cats with liver and pancreatic disease will be explained and the importance of nutrition will be emphasised.
