Good nursing and the provision of supportive care are essential if success is to be achieved in the exotic animal case. This interactive course is designed to equip nursing staff with the necessary skills to play a vital role in the treatment and rehabilitation of small animals, birds and reptiles. Success or failure of the majority of exotic animal cases hinges on the quality of supportive care that these animals receive. Having attended this course, nursing staff will have the confidence and ability to dramatically increase the success rate in the treatment of the exotic animal case.
Topics to be covered include: –
Hospitalisation and husbandry of common exotic species – creating an optimal environment for recovery.
Anaesthetic considerations, hints and tips for dealing with small animals, birds and reptiles.
Supportive care and treatment, what to give and how to give it.

Consultant to five zoological collections, a commercial laboratory and the Great Bustard Reintroduction project<br /> <br /> Co-editor of two texts on avian medicine, one on rabbit surgery and co-author of a textbook of tortoise medicine. Author of various book chapters and papers on a range of species<br /> <br /> Chairman of European Association of Avian Veterinarians and on editorial board of the Journal of Exotic Pet Medicine<br /> <br /> Vice-President of the British Small Animal Veterinary Association
