Schedule III of the Veterinary Surgeons Act 1966 was amended in 1991 enabling RCVS listed veterinary nurses to carry out certain procedures that cannot be carried out by lay persons. What does this mean to you, the veterinary nurse?
The first part of this course will discuss the actual Schedule III of the VSA 1966 (as amended in 1991). You will learn the legal aspects on who is permitted to perform minor surgeries and what those surgeries are.
Following that, this heavily practical course will cover a number of procedures that can be carried out by the registered or listed veterinary nurse. This course is an excellent foundation for nurses who want to expand their surgical techniques, making them an invaluable part of any veterinary surgical team.
The course teacher is Dr Heidi Radke, DVetMed DipECVS MRCVS, Lecturer in Small Animal Surgery at the Department of Clinical Veterinary Medicine at the University of Cambridge.
Delegates will consider:
* Schedule III and its implications
* Suture material and techniques
* Patient preparation
* Basic Surgical Techniques
* Post operative care
* Surgical instruments
* Suturing and practical techniques
Who is it for?
As Schedule III of the Veterinary Surgeons Act concerns listed veterinary nurses, this course will be of interest to those listed and registered veterinary nurses coming under this category who are interested in broadening their surgical skills.
