Our next group CPD training day will be held at the Royal Veterinary College\\\'s Hawkshead Campus on 9th March 2012. Professor Roger Smith will demonstrate how to perform a bone marrow aspiration from the sternum and the tuber coxae, how to implant stem cells into the SDFT using ultrasound, and will show how to use the E-PET (Equine Platelet Enhancement Therapy) system. This training will contribute towards Continued Professional Development points and a certificate will be provided. The training day costs £175 + VAT per person. The Speakers
Professor Roger Smith qualified as a veterinary surgeon from Cambridge University in 1987 and, after two years in practice, returned to academia to undertake further clinical training as a Resident in Equine Studies at the Royal Veterinary College. Following his residency, he undertook a three year research project culminating in the award of a PhD for his studies on the extracellular matrix of equine tendon. He remained at the Royal Veterinary College, first as a Lecturer in Equine Surgery, then as Senior Lecturer in Equine Surgery before his appointment to a Professorship in December 2003<br /> <br /> Roger’s main area of research is understanding the mechanisms of tendon ageing. He also has projects investigating the epidemiology of tendon disease in the horse, the development of a serological assay for tendonitis, and stem cell therapy for tendons in conjunction with VetCell.
