Our next group CPD training day will be held at the Royal Veterinary College\'s Hawkshead Campus on 9th March 2012. Professor Roger Smith will demonstrate how to perform a bone marrow aspiration from the sternum and the tuber coxae, how to implant stem cells into the SDFT using ultrasound, and will show how to use the E-PET (Equine Platelet Enhancement Therapy) system. This training will contribute towards Continued Professional Development points and a certificate will be provided. The training day costs £175 + VAT per person. The Speakers
Professor Roger Smith qualified as a veterinary surgeon from Cambridge University in 1987 and, after two years in practice, returned to academia to undertake further clinical training as a Resident in Equine Studies at the Royal Veterinary College. Following his residency, he undertook a three year research project culminating in the award of a PhD for his studies on the extracellular matrix of equine tendon. He remained at the Royal Veterinary College, first as a Lecturer in Equine Surgery, then as Senior Lecturer in Equine Surgery before his appointment to a Professorship in December 2003
Roger’s main area of research is understanding the mechanisms of tendon ageing. He also has projects investigating the epidemiology of tendon disease in the horse, the development of a serological assay for tendonitis, and stem cell therapy for tendons in conjunction with VetCell.
