This programme provides understanding of verbal and non-verbal communication in veterinary practice, developing core communication skills. Practical case study examples and discussion enable identification of where, when and how these communications skills can enrich practice, benefit animal welfare and lessen stress in the workplace. The ethos of relationship-centred veterinary practice is introduced, identifying the importance of understanding and responding to emotions arising from the human-animal relationship (HCAR) and illuminating empathy as central within communicating this understanding to clients.
