The aim of this Equine RCVS CertAVP module is to develop an in-depth knowledge of the underlying theory and practical approach to the management and care of foals and yearlings.
At the end of the module, delegates should be able to demonstrate a thorough understanding of:
- Diagnosis, treatment and management of conditions affecting the foal at birth
- Diagnosis, treatment and management of failure of passive transfer of immunity
- Diagnosis, treatment and management of conditions of the neonatal foal, including intensive care and infectious diseases
- Diagnosis, treatment and management of conditions of the older foal and yearling, including infectious diseases
- Developmental orthopaedic disease, including diagnosis, treatment and current ideas on epidemiology
- Management of common angular limb deformities, flexural limb deformities including medical and surgical management
- Management of outbreaks of infectious disease in foals, weanlings and yearlings
- Common surgical procedures of the foal, weanling and yearling
- Familiarity with the HBLB Codes of practice
- Stud farm organisation, breeding and rearing procedures, grassland management, nutrition, preventive medicine and herd health programmes
- Parasitic disease, control and management
Who is it for?
This 16 week on-line module is suitable for any vet considering an advanced RCVS certificate in Equine Veterinary Practice. However it is also suitable as standalone Equine CPD. If you pay the full course fee we also provide at least two days of face to face CPD at Leahurst.
