Pain is often the first thing that comes to mind when thinking of animal suffering. It is an important signal that injury has taken place. However, pain is also an aspect of any surgical intervention. Pain management is one place where well-informed veterinary staff can really make a difference!
The diagnosis and management of different levels of pain or discomfort can make an enormous difference in patient recovery times, quality of life, and may even be the difference between life and death in some severe cases.
Delegates will consider:
Reasons for pain
Disadvantages of pain
Pain assessment & signs of pain
Analgesic strategies
Analgesic agents
Non-pharmacological measures
Who is it for?
This course would be of interest to veterinary nurses and student veterinary nurses who are working with critical care patients in practice. This may also be useful for veterinary surgeons who wish to broaden their understanding of pain management, as well as those vets and nurses who are returning from a career break.
