The College of Animal Welfare

Provider: The College of Animal Welfare

Animal welfare is a very popular topic in the United Kingdom. With around 27 million pets, it\'s no surprise that nearly everyone has an opinion on how to keep an animal. But what exactly is animal welfare? Do you remember what the Five Freedoms actually mean?
This course takes a broad look at animal welfare, exploring what it means to animals and people and how veterinary nurses can improve the welfare of animals in their care.

The course aims to stimulate deeper thinking and debate about what is or isn’t good animal welfare

Delegates will consider:
• The ‘Five Freedoms’ and difficulties
• Explore the ethics, philosophy, and cultural beliefs and values
• The importance of veterinary nurses in particular when animals are hospitalised
• The legislative framework which safeguards animal welfare in the UK and Codes of Practice

Who is it for?

All veterinary nurses and veterinary surgeons who would like to expand their understanding of what is meant by good animal welfare. Any veterinary staff
who consider that good animal welfare is the ultimate goal of veterinary advice, care and treatment
