Course Content:
• The Introductory course is looking at welfare of the Game Bird, defining welfare and how industry must be aware of the legislation and likely events in the future.
• Biosecurity basics should be introduced, how diseases are transmitted and the consequences of poor bio security at the vulnerable rearing phases and before release.
• Comparative anatomy amongst the Game Bird species, some physiology of the birds that make them prone to disease.
• Some basic disease outlines for the common problems encountered and their prevention e.g. cocci control and worming.
• The practical element should involve the instruction on euthanasia, dissection of a bird (any that are available) and microscopic investigation of parasites of the gut.
