A variety of simple, quick and cost-effective techniques can be used to provide valuable information when evaluating the dermatology patient. However, these in-house techniques can often be frustrating to interpret as they rarely resemble the perfect photographs and special stains in textbooks and on posters! This talk will use real life case examples to illustrate a practical approach to performing and interpreting a range of diagnostic tests in your practice, including diff-quikR stained fine needle aspirates, skin scrapes, sellotape strippings, trichograms, touch impressions and aural swabs. We will also briefly discuss the optimal collection of samples for microbiology and biopsies for histopathology.
