The field of canine endocrinology has changed a lot in the past few years. There is therefore no better time for an update on various endocrine disorders in the dog. We will aim to make participants more comfortable and confident in diagnosing and managing a range of endocrine disorders including hyperadrenocorticism, diabetes mellitus, hypoadrenocorticism, insulinoma and hypothyroidism. Participants will be updated on the use of new drugs like DOCP for hypoadrenocorticism, a range of insulin types and GLP-1 agonists for diabetes mellitus, as well as the use of “old” drugs like trilostane used in new ways (once, twice or three times a day). In summary – this will be a highly informative course with lots to learn and discuss from two tutors at the cutting edge of canine endocrinology!
Key Areas
•Canine diabetes mellitus – update on pathophysiology, diagnosis and treatment
•Hyperadrenocorticism – update on presentation, diagnosis and treatment
•Hypoadrenocorticism – update on pathophysiology, diagnosis and treatment
•Hypothyrodism – how to avoid unnecessary treatment
•Hypercalcaemia and less common canine endocrinopathies (insulinoma, pituitary dwarfism, hyperaldosteronism)
This online course will run over four weeks. Learning material will be a mixture of two hour weekly webinars (which can be viewed live and/or as recorded versions throughout the course), online case assessment exercises, supplementary reading material and discussion forums involving the tutors and veterinary colleagues from around the world. The course will be of interest to small animal practitioners with a reasonable canine case load and would also be useful preparation for the RCVS CertAVP modules in small animal medicine. Participants can earn up to 16 CPD hours.
