About this course
A veterinary practitioner’s professional skills (those that can’t be defined as clinical scientific knowledge or technical skills, but are essential for the day-to-day ‘being’ a vet in practice) are increasingly being recognised, not only as something important for clinical practice, but as something that can be learned and developed. The RCVS requires CPD in this area for recognition of Advanced Practitioner status, but what exactly is it and what does it involve?

This course is built around the challenging, sometimes emotional, and often rewarding aspects of being a veterinary professional. During the four weeks, we will include themes such as ethical decision-making, difficult situations, the veterinary team and patient safety, and mistakes and adverse outcomes. Each week will include an online webinar and interactive discussion between the participants and course tutor, who is the Professional Skills lead for the BVetMed course at the RVC, and carries out research in this area. Participants can earn up to 16 CPD hours by completing this course, which is aligned with the RCVS CertAVP A module (Foundations of Advanced Veterinary Practice), and with the RCVS expectations for professional skills CPD for Advanced Practitioner status.
