Sunday 19th March, 2017. 22:58:30
Do you already have Veterinary Reception/ Animal Care Assistant experience, or are you looking for a starter role within veterinary practice that combines working with owners and pets, and the opportunity to learn from experienced vets and nurses?
We are looking for a motivated, friendly person with initiative and a desire to learn and excel. This position provides a great learning opportunity
As a Receptionist/ Animal Care Assistant, you will work in all areas of the practice, learning the basic principles of veterinary reception and nursing. Depending on experience but most likely after a minimum of 12 months, candidates showing sufficient aptitude / commitment will be given the opportunity to train as a student veterinary nurse at college
Can you handle a busy reception where the phones will be ringing, clients will need serving, vets will demand your attention - and yet still find time to greet the patients and their owners with a smile?
Are you brave enough to handle upset clients who have just lost a beloved pet, or help restrain a frightened cat for blood sample collection?
Are you willing to do dirty jobs like cleaning kennels, cleaning up pets accidents in the waiting room, doing washing up and laundry as well as ensuring the animals receive attention and comfort they need?
Previous work experience within a veterinary practice, or at least animal handling experience, is desirable.
However, a can-do attitude and willingness to learn are just as important.
Good written and spoken English, computer literacy and good telephone manners.
Applicants must have 5 GCSE's at grade C or above to include Maths, English Language and a Science, and be in possession of examination certificates.
You will need to have a keen eye for detail, and like to keep things neat and tidy without having to be reminded
You will have worked elsewhere before - if not in veterinary practice, then perhaps with experience as a sales assistant, or in a busy catering environment, dealing with customers and being responsible for taking payments
We are a busy, well-established, village-based, independent first opinion small animal veterinary clinic overlooking Ashtead Common.
Because we are a small practice, we get to know our clients and patients well
We all get on well, but it can be demanding work. and we never know exactly what the day will bring
