It is being hosted by Prairie Diagnostic Services Inc. on behalf of the Canadian Animal Health Laboratorians Network (CAHLN). This is the first time that the World Congress has been held in North America since 1999 (Texas). The 2015 WAVLD is expected to attract 500 + laboratory diagnosticians and directors from Canada, the United States and other countries around the world. Chair of the Symposium, Marilyn Jonas said, “We expect that holding the Symposium in Canada will significantly increase the profile of the WAVLD in Canada, the United States and South America. In keeping with the WAVLD mandate, we commit to facilitating the exchange of information among experts throughout the world, and create opportunities for professional development and networking for laboratorians and our partners from industry, academia and government.” The 2015 Symposium will be held from June 15 to 18 at TCU Place and will feature two and a half days of themed presentations and poster sessions as well as an exhibition featuring products and services for the veterinary diagnostic sector. The Symposium themes include management of endemic disease, new and emerging disease, new technologies, turning lab data into intelligence, and wildlife and one health. Partners involved in the Symposium include The World Organisation of Health (OIE) which will hold a one day diagnostic Symposium as one of the program options within the Symposium. The Canadian Animal Health Laboratorians Network (CAHLN) and the Canadian Association of Veterinary Pathologists (CAVP) Symposiums and annual meetings will also be integrated into the program as will the annual meeting of the Canadian Animal Health Surveillance Network (CAHSN). In addition to the information sessions, scientific and community tours will be offered as well as formal and informal networking opportunities. “Our province welcomes the opportunity to host this prestigious gathering to further the important work of veterinary diagnostic laboratories, which provide services necessary for the continued success of our agriculture industry,” Saskatchewan Agriculture Minister Lyle Stewart said. Brad Peters, Director International Sales for Tourism Saskatoon comments on the impact the Symposium will have on Saskatoon, “While we appreciate the immediate economic impact of hosting 500 world leaders in this field to Saskatoon for four days, the true value of this congress is our opportunity to position Saskatoon, Saskatchewan and Canada as leaders in the field. Saskatoon’s research infrastructure, advanced diagnostic capabilities and talent pool is one of our cities strategic competitive advantages. Hosting this Symposium will yield to further sharing and advancement in the field, and further align us with Canada’s Global Commerce Strategy.” Media for more information on the Symposium, Mandy Pravda. 306-652-1427-30-
