Petplan, the UK’s largest pet insurance provider, has announced stand-up comedian Alun Cochrane as its compère for the 2011 Petplan Veterinary Awards. Alun Cochrane Cochrane is one of Britain’s most versatile comedians, mixing friendly storytelling with sharp one-liners and off-the-cuff wit. He has been nominated as Best Newcomer award at the Perrier Awards, and "Best Compère" and "Best Break-through Act" at the 2005 Chortle Awards. Alun has also appeared on Michael McIntyre’s Comedy Roadshow and is already a seasoned panellist on Mock the Week, 8 Out of 10 Cats, and has appeared on Soccer A.M and Live At The Comedy Store. “I’m really looking forward to hosting what I hear will be a very glamorous and unforgettable evening” says Cochrane. Referred to as the ‘Veterinary Oscars’, the Petplan Vet Awards is now in its 12th year, celebrating top veterinary professionals across the UK and helping recognise the crucial role that veterinary staff play in practice and within the community. The event will be held on the 31st of March as part of the BSAVA congress in Birmingham. Previous compères for the awards include Michael McIntyre, Alistair McGowen, Jason Manford, and Frankie Boyle. Petplan’s Marketing Manager Alison Andrew says, “Veterinary staff are often the unsung heroes of a community and the Petplan Veterinary Awards are an opportunity to recognise the outstanding work and great dedication they have to our pets. She continued, “Having Alun as our compère for the night this year will be incredible. I’m sure he will keep everyone highly entertained on what is sure to be another glittering awards ceremony.” This year Petplan received over 2,900 nominations from customers and colleagues for the Vet of the Year, Vet Nurse of the Year, Support Staff of the Year and Practice of the Year categories.
