The Animal Welfare Foundation’s annual Discussion Forum on Monday 16th May will debate consumer choice through welfare labelling of meat, including religious slaughter, as well as exotic animal welfare, a topic which was voted top welfare concern at last year’s Forum.

- Defra Minister Lord Henley speaking on consumer choice in a session entitled ‘Welfare labelling: can I really be a welfare friendly shopper?’
- A presentation by Professor Bill Reilly, BVA Past President, entitled ‘To stun or not to stun - why shouldn’t the consumer know and choose?’ which will discuss the case for labelling meat from slaughter without stunning
- A session entitled ‘Organic – the high welfare choice?’
- A presentation on the animal welfare implications of the rapid growth in the popularity of reptiles as pets entitled ‘Snakes alive! Do reptiles lead a charmed life?’
- A discussion about ‘Chronic pain: when is enough, enough?’ which will look at clinical and ethical arguments about treatment choices
