Blue Chip CEO And Leading Business Speaker To Inspire Practitioners At BVA Congress 2008

DENPLAN’S managing director Stephen Gates is set to inspire vets as part of the Society of Practising Veterinary Surgeons (SPVS) lecture stream at BVA Congress 2008.

Stephen will advise practices on how to create more and better customers and how to nurture devoted, long-term clients at the Congress, which takes place from September 25-27 at the Royal College of Physicians in London.

Stephen is Managing Director of The Practice Business, an AXA-owned company working with the veterinary profession to provide products and services to increase client loyalty and practice profitability, of which Denplan is a key division. Denplan is a Sunday Times Top 100 Best Companies to Work For (No. 6 in the mid-size firm category in 2008, with Steve Gates winning the ‘Best Leadership’ award in 2007). Stephen is regularly asked to speak on the subject of leadership at conferences and other events at an international level.

His presentation, which is one of four that SPVS is hosting on day one, will cover what constitutes good management and leadership, what is meant by “Discretionary Energy” and how to unlock it in teams. It will also examine the definable characteristics that leaders have to display, while looking at the “subtle” personal characteristics that today’s teams want to see from their members.

Richard Hillman, SPVS President, said: “We’re delighted to have Stephen Gates as one of our keynote speakers. He’s a very inspirational presenter and business coach and will be offering some invaluable advice to practices on improving their competitiveness, which will be extremely useful in this increasingly challenging economic climate. This year’s Congress promises to be bigger and better than ever, and I’ll certainly look forward to welcoming some excellent speakers on behalf of SPVS.”

Richard will also be presenting on the challenges faced by farm animal practices and why their future is still bright; while Peter Gripper, MD of Anval Ltd, will talk about retirement planning and Val McGarrell, Head of the Royal College of General Practitioners (Northern Ireland), will discuss self-motivation, and provide valuable tips to anyone suffering from a lack of it.

BVA Congress 2008 promises to be an event for the whole profession, combining both political and CPD sessions under the theme 'vets in a changing environment'.
