The Bella Moss Foundation advise on infection control, but do not give veterinary advice or comment on clinical treatment of animals. People get in touch with BMF because they want to know how their vet can get help or support to deal with situations they may not be familiar with, and have a realistic understanding of the possible outcome. A large part of our work is to emphasise the fact that proper treatment improves the chances of a positive outcome. On occasions, we are contacted by people who have MRSA themselves, and in such cases we advise them of the things they need to do to prevent cross-infecting their pet. More and more farmers are coming to us for information on ST398 and MRSP seems to be a bigger problem for many vets that MRSA.

Many owners have to care for a pet at home suffering from a serious infection, or multiple infections. They may have been given very little advice or none at all about caring for their pet at home, and are not made aware of the risks of cross infection. This can cause great anxiety.

The Bella Moss Foundation works closely with experts in both human and animal health because we believe that this collaborative approach helps to provide the general public with accurate information and intervention when needed.

To keep the CPD section of BMF up to date, we invite veterinarians, and nurses to offer academic contributions, or articles of interest that we may publish for practioners visiting our website to see. Topics for consideration: on hygiene, responsible use of antibiotics current research into antimicrobial resistance in companion animals, clinical auditing (post operative infections) experience of dealing with clients with pets infected with MRSA/MRSP.

The Bella Moss Foundation continues to work towards promoting good veterinarian practice and protecting people and pets from resistant bacterial infections. We work collaboratively with the veterinary profession, we are grateful for the support of the RCVS, BVA, BSAVA, SPVS, BVNA, DEFRA, FECAVA and ISCAID and other groups who support our educational work.
