We will start with an overview of the diagnosis of kidney dysfunction, differentiation of renal from non-renal causes of azotaemia, acute from decompensated chronic kidney disease and staging of chronic kidney disease.  This will be followed by an overview of acute kidney injury, the risk factors and common causes, generic management issues and prognostic indicators. The middle three sessions will deal with syndromes which accompany different types of kidney disease, namely secondary renal hyperparathyroidism, proteinuria and systemic hypertension.  Each session will provide an overview of the pathophysiology, diagnosis and management principles. The final session will deal with nephrolithiasis is an increasingly recognised problem leading to kidney dysfunction and damage in small animal practice.  The course will improve your understanding of kidney disease, assist you in making diagnoses, offering your clients accurate prognoses and in better tailoring your treatment plans to the needs of your patients.
