BVA Congress 2012 - Prestigious Scientific Award For Professor Michael Thrusfield

Professor Michael Thrusfield was today (Thursday) announced as the recipient of the British Veterinary Association’s most prestigious scientific award for his immense contributions to the advancement of knowledge in veterinary science, especially epidemiology. The Dalrymple-Champneys Cup and Medal, awarded to mark and recognise work of outstanding merit, were presented to Professor Thrusfield during the Awards Ceremony at the BVA’s Annual Congress in Liverpool today (Thursday). Currently Professor of Veterinary Epidemiology at the University of Edinburgh, Michael Thrusfield has published the only general textbook on veterinary epidemiology - now in its third edition and 24th year, and available in five languages. It has proved to be an invaluable reference source for veterinary general practitioners, government veterinarians, agricultural economists and members of other disciplines interested in animal disease. On learning that he had been given the award, Professor Thrusfield commented: “I am honoured to have been awarded the Dalrymple-Champneys Cup and Medal. I am very aware of the prestige of this Award, evidenced by its list of previous holders. ”I have had very enjoyable career in veterinary epidemiology, and the Award will be a cherished gift towards its later stages. I am grateful to my peers and the Award’s Selection Committee for valuing my work, and also thank the University of Edinburgh, which, for over 40 years, has provided me with a fertile environment in which to develop my discipline.”
