Ceva Animal Health has been awarded two prestigious International Cat Care (ICC) ‘Easy to Give’ Awards for its popular ectoparasiticide, Vectra Felis, and its tasty clindamycin antibiotic, Zodon.

In total, only 31 products have won ICC ‘Easy to Give’ Awards since they launched in 2005 and Ceva has now won more than any other animal health company.  Ceva previously won recognition for products within its antibiotic range including Kesium, Therios and Efex and its ectoparasiticide, Fiprospot. Ceva’s leading veterinary behaviour product, Feliway, has also previously won a ‘Cat Friendly’ Award.

Judged by a panel of leading veterinary surgeons who are, or have been, funded to specialise in feline medicine by the ICC, the ‘Easy to Give’ awards, which took place at Kensington Roof Gardens in London on Friday 11 September, recognise the commitment made by animal health companies in ensuring that feline medicines are as easy to administer as possible making life less stressful for vets, owners and feline patients alike.  Ceva will now be able to feature the ‘Easy to Give’ logo on Vectra Felis and Zodon packaging and marketing material.

Claire Bessant, chief executive of International Cat Care, comments: 'We have really enjoyed working with Ceva over the last 10 years.  Our relationship comes really naturally because they share the same values as us and the same passion for cats.”

Alan Doyle, managing director of Ceva Animal Health, comments: “We are really proud and delighted to have been awarded another two “Easy to Give” Awards from the ICC this year. Zodon and Vectra Felis are lovely, cat-friendly products and it’s great that ICC has recognised this.”

Vectra Felis provides excellent protection against fleas. Containing a unique formulation of two active ingredients – dinotefuran and pyriproxyfen – Vectra Felis ensures that over 95% of fleas are killed within two hours and the effects last for a full month.  Fleas do not need to ingest dinotefuran to die, it kills on contact, and the pyriproxyfen is a potent Insect Growth Regulator (IGR) which prevents flea emergence for three months therefore protecting the home from further infestation.

Vectra Felis is administered via its patented applicator, which has an elongated smooth tip for quick and easy application.  The elongated tip on the pipette makes it easy to reach the cat’s skin through the fur, providing direct contact during application.  The applicator also provides accurate dosing and facilitates clean administration as nothing comes out until the tube is squeezed.  Kittens can be treated from seven weeks of age (weighing at least 0.6kg).

Zodon is the only veterinary licensed flavoured clindamycin antibiotic available in the UK. It is indicated for the treatment of infected wounds and abscesses and oral cavity/dental infections caused by or associated with clindamycin-sensitive species of Staphylococcus spp. The oral solution for cats and small dogs is highly palatable and easy to administer. With a grilled meat flavour, Zodon oral solution can be given straight into the mouth or sprinkled onto food helping with treatment compliance and course adherence. It also comes with a graduated syringe which has been especially designed to achieve greater treatment accuracy.

Many owners say that their cats accept Zodon very well when mixed with food and they would be happy to use it again.  One owner‘s response illustrates how ‘Easy to Give’ medicines can prevent breakdown of the pet-owner bond.  She says: “I was having difficulty giving my cat medication in capsule form, so tried the liquid.  Although my cat doesn’t enjoy taking medicine, she was much less stressed than she had been with me trying to give her a capsule three times a day.  Previously, with the capsules she’d had me in tears when she started hissing and growling at me, something she had never done before.  The liquid form is much easier, quicker and less stressful for me and my cat.”
