The many ‘routes to your future’ available to CVS staff were highlighted during the company’s annual Conference, attended by more than 500 delegates.  During the two-day event, which took place at the Birmingham Metropole Hotel on Friday 14 and Saturday 15 October, delegates were updated by members of the Board, both on its performance during the last year and its future plans.   The diversity of clinical and management career opportunities for employees, offered by its rapid growth and increasing presence in areas such as equine, large animal and referral practice, was highlighted by all of the speakers, including HR Director Helen Wiseman, who also focused on the training and support offered to enable employees build a long-term career at CVS.

Following an ‘Executive Q&A’ session during which delegates were invited to put their questions directly to the Board, they attended a range of clinical and practice management-related CPD sessions. ‘An update on Feline Nasal Disease’; ‘Interventional Cardiology – what’s possible’; ‘The Science of Merchandising’ and ‘Personality Profiling’ were some of the options on offer.  Charity Blue Cross also ran a session on supporting clients through pet bereavement.  On Friday evening, delegates gathered for a gala dinner during which the annual CVS Company Awards, which recognise excellence across the business, were presented with the help of former MP and broadcaster Giles Brandreth.

Commenting, Chief Executive Simon Innes said: “It has been another good year for CVS as we continue to focus on being the largest and best provider of veterinary services to animal owners in the UK.  We have experienced strong growth across the business and this growth, in turn, brings great opportunities for our people.  The breadth, depth and growing diversity of CVS means that whether colleagues are new graduates fresh from university, experienced clinicians who want a new challenge or skilled business managers or administrators who want to take their career in a new direction, we can offer them a pathway – and the training and support to help them meet their goal.

“We believe the range of career options we can offer to our colleagues is an increasingly important differentiator for CVS in a tough market place and hope it will help to encourage even more of our people to build a long term future with us.  I would like to thank everyone in the company for their hard work as we look ahead to another exciting year in 2017.”

Key to its success is CVS' ability to attract ambitious veterinary staff whilst continuing to invest in the development of their clinical skills and in research to drive the profession forward.  It also provides the business support to ensure its diverse range of small animal; large animal and equine practices achieve their full potential.  CVS' guiding principles include a commitment to excellence in all aspects of its work and a focus on building long-term relationships with its customers and suppliers.  The company works in close partnership with the wider veterinary profession and industry colleagues.
