Simon Innes and Peter Laurie (Left to right): Simon Innes and Peter Laurie CVS has presented a cheque for £15,000 to the Retired Greyhound Trust (RGT) following a year of fundraising among its practices across the UK. The cheque was presented to RGT Chief Executive Peter Laurie at CVS' Annual Conference which took place at the Metropole Hotel, Birmingham on 7 and 8 November 2014. The RGT is a national charity, dedicated to finding loving homes for greyhounds when their racing days are over. It operates a network of over 70 branches across Britain, run by volunteers. Most branches have kennels with retired greyhounds, available for rehoming, for the public to meet. Commenting on the donation, CVS CEO Simon Innes said: "This year's fundraising has been particularly successful and the range of events run by our staff shows ever higher levels of creativity with cakes a particular theme. We perhaps have Mary Berry to thank for the fact that a number of practices organised their own Bake Offs and our support office in Diss, Norfolk, took this one step further by organising themed baking weeks. As I'm based in Diss I can confirm that the contributions brought in for Savoury Week and Chocolate Week were to a very high standard! "The RGT does fantastic work and we're delighted to help them with this significant donation." Peter Laurie, CEO of the RGT, added: "On behalf of the RGT I would like to thank everyone at CVS for the past year of support and for all of the activities they have carried out to raise funds for and raise awareness of Britain’s retired greyhounds. We are honoured and grateful for this donation, which will go a long way towards helping us find loving homes for the greyhounds in our care.”
