John Innes in a consulting room John Innes CVS Referral Director John Innes has been appointed President of the European Society of Veterinary Orthopaedics and Traumatology (ESVOT) for a two year term with effect from October 2014. ESVOT spearheads the development of veterinary orthopaedics in Europe through the provision of scientific meetings which deliver a blend of continuing education and clinical research. The Society’s biennial congress represents the largest global gathering dedicated to veterinary orthopaedics. It also provides practical surgery courses in small animals and horses led by the world’s most prominent orthopaedic specialists and runs an educational website called www.orthovetsupersite, an open resource for vets interested in orthopaedics. Membership is open to any veterinarian or member belonging to an affiliated profession interested in orthopaedics and traumatology. John Innes has been an active member of ESVOT for several years and has most recently served as Junior Vice-President. Commenting on his appointment as President, he said: “It is a real privilege to lead ESVOT for the next two years. "While the demand for veterinary orthopaedic expertise is arguably greater than ever, the subject has been somewhat squeezed from the undergraduate curriculum in recent years and this makes the provision of high-quality postgraduate education even more important. During my presidential term, I am keen to encourage younger members of the profession to join the Society to help develop their orthopaedic skills. Within CVS, we are looking to lead by example, nurturing these skills in our younger staff We hope to see a good number of them at the next ESVOT Congress in London from 8-10 September 2016."
