More than 700 veterinary professionals took the opportunity to learn about the role of methadone in pain management as part of a series of CPD sessions held across the UK. The highly successful CPD events focused on the practical use of Comfortan in veterinary practice and included presentations on pain assessment and pain management from Dr Jo Murrell BVSc, PhD(Bristol), DipECVA, MRCVS, Prof. Derek Flaherty BVMS, DVA, DipECVAA, MRCA, MRCVS, FHEA, and Kate White, MA Vet MB DVA Dipl ECVAA MRCVS. Dechra Veterinary Products Brand Manager, Craig Sankey, said: “We were really pleased with the feedback from the veterinary professionals who attended the events which were held across the UK during the summer. “The CPD sessions were developed to demonstrate why methadone is ideally suited to the treatment of cats and dogs in, or expected to be in, moderate to severe pain, particularly when used as part of a multi-modal analgesia technique. The speakers also discussed the benefits of using full mu agonist opioids to provide analgesia. “Feedback from attendees commended not only the content of the presentations but also rated the speakers highly. Dechra is committed to supporting vets and vet nurses and delivering CPD is just one of many ways we aim to do that.” For those who were unable to attend the sessions, a free webinar on the subject will be held on September 24, at 7.30pm. Professor Derek Flaherty, BVMS, DVA, DipECVAA, MRCA, MRCVS, FHEA will present the hour long session. Space is limited for the webinar and anyone wishing to attend can reserve a seat by visiting www3.gotomeeting.com/register/315045054. An email confirmation will be sent with instructions on how to join the webinar, which will be accessible via PC, Mac or mobile devices including iPads and iPhones and Android devices.
