Vetstream has added ‘Exotis’ to its Vetlexicon digital clinical reference services. Exotis will cover a portfolio of exotic species with content on guinea pigs the first species to be made available.

Vetstream specialises in the provision of digital reference resources to the veterinary sector with Vetlexicon the world's largest online clinical veterinary reference tool.  It offers comprehensive, peer-reviewed digital point-of-care information on the veterinary treatment of dogs (Canis), cats (Felis), rabbits (Lapis) and horses (Equis), together with Practis, which provides advice on all aspects of practice management with information contributed by more than 100 experts.

In adding Exotis to Vetlexicon, Vetstream aims to support the growing number of vets dealing with exotic species on a regular basis and, as the fourth most popular pet in the UK, content on guinea pigs has been added first.  It has been written and peer-reviewed by 16 of the world’s leading exotic specialist veterinarians and is presented in 25 categories, including gastrohepatology, laboratory medicine and oncology.  The launch edition also includes detail on more than 90 diseases and a wide range of images, radiographs and videos from world-class, highly-respected contributors led by Dr Cathy Johnson-Delaney.  The compliance and education of owners is supported through the provision of 34 owner fact sheets covering the health and welfare aspects of guinea pig care.

According to Vetstream, ferret content will be added to Exotis later in 2017 with content on other exotic species, such as rodents, psittacine birds, chelonians and reptiles added at the rate of two species groups a year.

Dr Mark Johnston, Managing Director of Vetstream, said: “We want Vetlexicon to be a comprehensive clinical resource so adding Exotis takes us another step forward.  Diagnosing and treating exotic species can be a challenge as they are not seen so frequently so we hope Exotis will prove a valuable addition to Vetlexicon.  We want to provide the resources that practising vets need most so we are taking a crowdsourcing approach to dictate the order of species we will provide content on.  We invite vets to prioritise the species for inclusion in Exotis by completing a short questionnaire at www.vetstream.com/treat/exotis.”

In addition to Vetlexicon, Vetstream Webpartner offers a suite of website design, online content and digital marketing services designed specifically for the veterinary profession while Vetstream Vetacademy, the company’s user-friendly online learning platform, provides the whole practice team with the ability to search and select from more than 300 courses from the world’s leading training and CPD providers.
