Felis logo Felis, the world’s largest online clinical reference resource for cat-based small animal veterinary practices is celebrating its 15th anniversary during June 2013 with the launch of an enhanced website. To mark the milestone, Vetstream, the online content specialist which provides Felis, is also donating a subscription to feline charity Cats Protection. Felis contains more than 4,000 separate peer-reviewed content items, in text, graphic, picture and video form, contributed by more than 360 leading clinicians from around the world. The content, updated weekly, includes updates on diseases; bacteria, viruses and parasites; surgical and diagnostic techniques and a formulary. It also provides factsheets for owners. Launched in 1998, it has subscribers in 26 countries and is available on a quarterly or annual subscription. The newly enhanced website offers improved navigation and image display. Phil Bareham, Partner at Wendy Lane Vets in Rochdale, comments: "As a nine year-qualified vet, Felis has been available at every practice that I've worked at and I find it difficult to imagine life without it. The great benefit it offers is that we can access a huge range of up to date information instantly – it’s a great practice resource and is in use virtually daily here at Wendy Lane Vets.” Dr G Mark Johnston, Managing Director of Vetstream, adds: “The pressure on practices to keep abreast of fast-moving clinical developments and to communicate with clients effectively has never been greater. Felis subscribers tell us that the breadth of information at their finger tips is a huge benefit while many also use the graphics and videos regularly to explain their diagnoses and proposed treatment regimes to clients. Together with our other clinical reference services, Canis (dogs), Equis (horses) and Lapis (rabbits), it is cross-linked to VetMedResource from CABI, and PubMed giving access to abstracts and primary literature to enable practices to apply an evidence-based approach to clinical care. We’d like to thank Felis’ subscribers for their support over the last 15 years and hope they enjoy the enhancements we have introduced. To mark the occasion, we also felt it was fitting to donate a subscription to Cats Protection, which does fantastic work across the country, caring for homeless and abandoned cats." Maggie holding a catMaggie Roberts MRCVS, Director of Veterinary Services at Cats Protection, said: “As the UK’s leading feline welfare organisation, it’s vitally important that our veterinary staff are up to date with the latest developments in feline medicine so we are extremely grateful to Vetstream for its generous donation of a subscription to Felis." Vetstream’s clinical reference services, Canis, Felis, Lapis and Equis, provide the world’s largest online source of peer reviewed point-of-care veterinary content. Vetstream also recently entered the CPD market, launching Vetacademy, a service which provides e-learning modules and online videos in partnership with some of the world’s leading veterinary CPD providers.
