Emma Turner
First Veterinary Nurse Receives City & Guilds Medal For Excellence
A veterinary nurse from Newcastle under Lyme in Staffordshire has become the first in the country to receive a City & Guilds Medal for Excellence. Miss Emma Turner has worked at the Friarswood Veterinary Centre, part of CVS (UK) Ltd, for five years and successfully completed her training as a Registered Veterinary Nurse in 2015.
She was nominated for the City & Guilds Medal by Lite Ltd, an organisation delivering specialist training for the animal care sector and with whom she underwent her training. It was presented to her at a ceremony at Kensington Roof Gardens in London on 15 June 2017 by City and Guilds.
Commenting on the Award, Mrs Jackie Shopland-Reed from Lite Ltd said: “City & Guilds Medals for Excellence recognise the achievements of learners, lecturers and trainers who have achieved great results by producing exceptional work – going above and beyond what is expected to achieve their goals. It recognises not only excellent results but also those who show a true journey of progression throughout their qualification.
“We felt Emma was deserving of the Medal as she achieved outstanding results for each aspect of this very challenging qualification – showing exceptional skills in assignment writing, examination technique and in her practical ability. Emma proved to be a conscientious, adaptable individual who is an excellent role model, not only for future students but also for the veterinary nursing profession as a whole.”
Commenting on receiving the Medal, Emma Turner said: “I am honoured to have been nominated for the Medal, particularly as I am the first veterinary nurse to receive it. I love my job at Friarswood Vets and I am proud to be recognised for my achievements.”
Dr Isabel Forman, Clinical Director at Friarswood Veterinary Centre, said: “Emma is a conscientious and dedicated veterinary nurse and I am pleased to say that we have just promoted her to Deputy Head Nurse. I am sure she will continue to grow in this role and be a great team leader. It has been brilliant to watch her skills, knowledge and confidence develop over the last five years.”
Mrs Belinda Andrews-Jones, Director of Nursing at CVS, added: “Our nurses are the cornerstone of our practices and do a fantastic job day in, day out, caring for our patients and advising and supporting their owners. Emma’s achievement in becoming the first veterinary nurse in the UK to receive this award is something we at CVS are also very proud of and we congratulate her. She is a great role model for veterinary nurses.”
