Young vets interested in a change in career direction can now get a first hand insight into life working in Emergency and Critical Care via Vets Now’s latest ‘Cutting Edge’ video on YouTube. The ‘Cutting Edge’ initiative is the first training programme of its kind in the UK and this week will see up to 40 vets who graduated between 2006 and 2009 selected for a place on the 10 week fast track training programme, taking them straight to the heart of emergency, working as a Veterinary Surgeon in a Vets Now clinic. Vets Now has received a steady stream of applications since the initiative launched in July and has embraced a social media campaign to spread the word about life in emergency to attract young, energetic vets into this area of the profession. The YouTube video features Senior Veterinary Surgeon, Elaine Stuart talking about her switch in career from general practice to ECC; “I was in practice for about two years before I started to think, there must be more to being a vet. Joining Vets Now was a complete breath of fresh air and was completely different to anything I’d done before. Vets Now provides a challenge because truly, you don’t know what’s going to come in the door next. She adds; “When it’s one thing after another the adrenaline buzz you get from that is amazing and also knowing that you’re making a difference; a difference that you can see in a matter of minutes.” Two fast track training programmes will run in 2010/11, each taking 20 vets through 10 weeks of intensive ECC training on a robust programme which has been designed by Vets Now Clinical Director and ECC Diplomate, Amanda Boag. The official deadline for applications for the October intake has now passed; however if late applicants meet the necessary criteria and are able to take up a place on the programme they will still be considered for the October intake. Vets Now is also now accepting entries for the second fast track programme which will commence in January, at short notice if one were to become available. Graduates who are interested in applying for a place on the ‘Cutting Edge’ training programme should contact the Vets Now recruitment team on 01383 841181 or email [email protected].
