Free CPD webinars aim to boost practice confidence Royal Canin is set to host two complimentary webinars dedicated to small animal dermatology, as part of its ongoing commitment to improve skin care knowledge amongst vet general practitioners. Both webinars will be two-hour interactive case study based sessions, with the first one ‘Canine Dermatology’ taking place at 8.30pm on Tuesday 25th October and the second one ‘Feline Dermatology’ running at the same time on Tuesday 1st November. The webinars - which have already attracted early registrations from hundreds of UK practitioners - are being presented by ‘The Skin Vet’ Anthony Chadwick BVSc CertVD MRCVS and Royal Canin’s Catherine Howard MA VetMB MRCVS. Anthony explained: “The large volume of skin cases we see in general practice necessitates a certain level of expertise in all small animal dermatology. With expert advice, a vet’s experience can evolve into complete confidence in work-up and management. The advice we will be giving in these webinars aims to present dermatology as less of a ‘muddled maze’ and more an opportunity for vets to flex their ‘clinical muscle’. “We will be looking at all the common pitfalls in the management of dermatological conditions, including overly simplistic history taking, the systematic use of inappropriate complementary tests and the misuse of drug cocktails before a diagnosis is made. By using everyday cases we hope to demonstrate how to make significant, spectacular and positive impacts on our patients.” Interested practices can register for the webinar by visiting www.thewebinarvet.com/royalcanin - quoting the coupon ‘skincare’ to claim their free CPD worth £80 per individual (CPD certificates are available online for both sessions). Anthony concluded: “Webinar events are easy to join – all you need is a computer with speakers and internet access. So I would urge all vet practices to consider joining us on-line with their questions so that we can have as stimulating a training session as possible.” Anthony Chadwick qualified from Liverpool University in 1990 and passed his RCVS certificate in veterinary dermatology in 1995, immediately setting up a peripatetic dermatology practice in the North of England which is still running today. Anthony has much experience in first opinion and referral dermatology and understands well practitioners’ dilemmas. Anthony has lectured extensively in the UK and abroad on dermatology and in February 2010 set up The Webinar Vet, in which CPD on a wide range of subjects as well as dermatology is delivered to a veterinary audience. Catherine Howard qualified from the University of Cambridge in 2007, following an intercalated year in Natural Sciences, specialising in zoology. After three years in solely small animal practice she joined Royal Canin as Scientific Support Manager. Catherine has always had a strong interest in the role of nutrition and preventative health care for companion animals and now works closely with all members of the Royal Canin Veterinary Team, providing technical support and training where required.
