Citrix volunteer team Six employees from the Gerrards Cross office of virtual computing provider Citrix Systems UK spent a day volunteering at The Horse Trust's sanctuary in Speen on 4 October. Citrix employees Ali Collins, Jonathan Dakin, Sarah Cousins, John Spencer, Simon McDermott and Rowland Armstrong helped out at the sanctuary for rescued and retired working horses by painting the sanctuary's staff canteen. They volunteered as part of the company's Global Day of Impact, where staff are given the time off to help out in the local community. "We all loved our volunteer day at The Horse Trust and are hoping to come back to help out again," said Ali Collins, who works as Lead Territory Manager in Enterprise Sales for Citrix. Ali suggested to her colleagues that they volunteer for The Horse Trust as she is a keen horse rider and knew about the work the charity had done helping some of the horses, ponies and donkeys rescued from Spindles Farm in Hyde Heath. "I was aware of what happened at Spindles Farm and was horrified by it. I knew how much work the Horse Trust did to save as many of the horses as possible and wanted to do something to help out," said Ali. Shirley Abbott, Stable and Estate Manager at The Horse Trust, thanked the Citrix staff for their help. "We would like to say a big thank you to the volunteers for their hard work, and to Citrix for giving their staff the time off to help out," said Shirley. "We'd been planning to repaint our canteen and by doing this job for us, the volunteers have freed up our grooms to spend more time on rehabilitation and training work with the horses at the sanctuary." The Horse Trust is happy to accommodate groups of volunteers and has a variety of volunteer opportunities available in the office and yard.
