A popular veterinary practice in Hove has earned a prestigious national environmental award which highlights its eco-friendly practices and sustainability programmes.

Linnaeus-owned Wilbury Vets has been accredited as a silver level practice by Investors in the Environment (iiE).

The iiE is a nationwide initiative that encourages firms to transform their working practices to introduce more environmentally friendly, cleaner and more sustainable methods and systems.

The audit report by iiE said it was clear Wilbury Vets promotes a strong culture of caring for one another, their clients and also the environment.

The report stated: “The foundations for sustainable change across the practice have been laid through the hard work of the Green Team and whole staff group.”

It also highlighted how an impressive range of social and environmental projects have been undertaken that surpass the requirements for Silver level, benefiting the community, as well as team members and clients.

Specific measures also include developing an Environmental Management System which includes areas such as commuter mileage and client travel.

There are multiple options for clients to provide alternatives to visiting the practice in-person, including access to the Pets App and medication delivery within the client membership option.

Isabella Kinloch-Haken, a Registered Veterinary Nurse at Wilbury Vets, said: “It’s been a fantastic team effort to reach silver level iiE status.

“The accreditation benefits the practice, our clients and the local community. However, we won’t rest on our laurels and will now focus our efforts on achieving the iiE Green Award, the highest level award it offers.”

Further sustainability actions at Wilbury Vets include implementing an effective waste management system, through which waste is segregated efficiently, and enforcing multiple reusable swaps, such as using microfibre towels for cleaning to reduce paper towel usage.
