How A - List Is Your Pet?

Are we living the A-list lifestyle through our pets? A poll by PDSA, the UK’s leading veterinary charity, show that Posh and Becks are the most popular celebrity couple after which to name our canine companions. We clearly have no qualms about shouting “Posh” “Becks” when trying to round up our doggy friends in the park. (Bizarrely Becks was by far the most popular celebrity name for rabbits.)

PDSA PR Manager, Liza Randall says: “Posh and Becks are popular names for pets treated by PDSA, and although we may not be able to offer them Beckingham Palace they always do receive A-list treatment when they come to a PDSA PetAid hospital.”

Newcomers in the canine celeb poll name were Wayne and Coleen, while Tom and Kate have made a late surge to come in at third place. Just like their relationship the number of dogs called Jude and Sienna tend to fluctuate according to how their celebrity role models are getting on. However some celebrities never go out of fashion, Churchill topped the solo celebrity dog name poll, closely followed by Becks (again!), Diddy and Dido. Never one to be left out, in fifth place came Elton John.

Cat owners, on the other hand are a breed apart. Peter and Jordan came top of the pops for feline names, piping Posh and Becks to the top spot. Tom and Kate came in third with J’lo and Marc in fourth place, proving that some cats really are, “just Jenny from the block.” While Elton and David glided into fifth place on the couples front.

On the solo feline front, Jordan proved her pulling power yet again by landing prime position. Meanwhile lots of single, crossbreed cats are called J’lo – she came in at fifth place. Divas lead the way in the feline world as PDSA clients are also twice more likely to call their cats Beyonce than dog owners.

As well as A-list illusions it seems we also think our felines are gifted on the brain power front too with Einstein coming third in the solo cat poll.

Of course, the ultimate naming accolade is a celeb owner calling their pet after another star. PDSA celebrity supporters are fans of this – Nicole Appleton calls her Chihuahua, Michael Jackson. Jamie Redknapp calls his British Bulldog Winston, in honour of Churchill and Julian Clary has named his canine companion Valerie after Valerie Singleton.
