World Horse Welfare is highlighting the value of volunteers to our work during Volunteers Week (1-7 June). Our charity has a number of regular volunteers who help us in many different ways, whether supporting us at one of our four Visitor Centres or assisting our work at our Head Office. Our Shetland walking initiative is also particularly popular with our volunteers in Norfolk. Volunteers are very important to us as they make a real difference to our work helping horses. Our supporters help us to raise vital funds and provide the perfect network to raise awareness of what we do within their local communities. Our volunteers are so generous with their time at the events we attend such as Burghley Horse Trials and Olympia, and the recent Diamond Jubillee Pageant at Windsor. Chief Executive at World Horse Welfare Roly Owers said: “We want to really celebrate the contribution of our volunteers but also encourage more people to help. There are lots of benefits of becoming a World Horse Welfare volunteer; it is a great opportunity to learn more about horses; you can meet new people and make new friends. There is also the potential to gain new skills and experiences, or help you to gain in confidence and self-esteem.” Every year, over 20 million people across the UK volunteer, donating more than 100 million hours to their communities every week.
