IVC Evidensia has brought together two highly regarded practitioners from different backgrounds to run its new veterinary referral hospital in Longbridge, Birmingham.

One of the largest in the UK, Blaise Veterinary Referrals Hospital opened last month under the leadership of Andrew Kent, clinical director and European specialist in internal medicine. The hospital has the capacity to treat up to 10,000 pets every year and will service referrals from first opinion practices in the surrounding area, as well as providing a 24/7 emergency and critical care provision through Vets Now.

Part of the IVC Evidensia Referral network, Blaise is the first purpose-built, multi-disciplinary hospital for the group in the UK and is expected to become a blueprint for future hospitals, with a clinician-led building design and a nurse-led clinical floor, both of which are fairly new practices for the professions.

With over 10 years of experience working in veterinary referrals, Kent oversees all aspects of the hospital and is charged with driving Blaise forward to become one of the UK’s top specialist veterinary hospitals.

Julie Davis joins the team as hospital director, looking after business delivery, operational management and strategic planning throughout Blaise. Coming from an NHS background, Davis brings 20 years of experience in healthcare and research management to the hospital, most recently as deputy COO for a clinical research network. She is also a champion powerlifter and has represented the UK several times across the world.

RVN Kate Flint runs the nurse-led floor at Blaise in her role as clinical nurse manager and joins Kent and Davis on the Blaise leadership team. She has a diploma in advanced veterinary nursing and extensive experience working in small animal hospitals as lead nurse, with clinical interests are endocrinology, transfusion medicine and endoscopy.

Kent is is thrilled to be part of the team that will realise Blaise’s potential, saying:

“As a purpose-built hospital, great care has been taken to make Blaise the very best place it can be for both clinicians and pets. With state-of-the-art equipment, a clinician-led building design and a nurse-led hospital floor, we are excited to be leading the way for Referral hospitals in the UK.”

Blaise Veterinary Referrals is fully operational and open 24/7 for referrals, supporting colleagues from surrounding vet practices, across the midlands and the rest of the UK. For more information, visit www.blaise-referrals.com
