Joss Stone next to horse Soul singer Joss Stone has visited the British animal charity SPANA (the Society for the Protection of Animals Abroad) on the first leg of her Total World Tour in Morocco. The star, who is starting out on her mission to perform in over 200 countries in just two years, spent time at SPANA’s Casablanca centre on Friday where the charity provides free veterinary care for working horses, donkeys and mules. She also helped out with one of the charity’s equitherapy sessions for children with disabilities ahead of her performance at the Jazzablanca festival. Joss said: “I’m so excited that Morocco has been part of the first leg of my Total World Tour. It’s going to be an incredible few years ahead, and I feel very lucky to have spent time with the charity SPANA on the first leg, which was set up by two pioneering British women over 90 years ago. “Before visiting the charity I had no idea just how much people rely on working animals here for their means of earning an income and transport. There’s a huge need for SPANA’s free vet care, not only to help animals but also to help secure people’s livelihoods, and it’s showed me the real importance of lo-tech aid solutions for Africa. I’ve been totally inspired and can’t wait to continue seeing the work of local charities on the rest of the tour.” In each country on the Total World Tour Joss will be performing at a gig, teaming up with a local musician and visiting a local charity close to her heart. Jeremy Hulme, SPANA’s chief executive, said: “We’re so grateful to Joss for visiting SPANA and learning more about the plight of hardworking animals here, as well as for sharing her selfless and caring spirit with our staff and children with disabilities who visit us for equitherapy. “We know that she’ll be bringing a lot of joy to the charities she visits over the course of the next two years.” To find out about SPANA or to make a donation to the charity, visit www.spana.org.
