The latest modules in the first online CPD series covering veterinary forensic science and animal crime scene investigation have been added to the wide selection of online training available on Vetacademy.

The new modules in the series entitled NAVC Vetfolio Veterinary Forensic Science and Medicine and Animal CSI cover zoo, aquatic and exotic animal cases, as well as demonstrating practical techniques for crime scene investigation, including how to process the scene and to collect evidence and samples. Speakers include Melinda Merck, DVM, a distinguished forensic veterinarian and author of Veterinary Forensics: Animal Cruelty Investigations, 2nd edition. Topics covered in the earlier modules include how to recognise abuse and neglect and forensic entomology.

"There is a critical need for the veterinary healthcare team to be prepared to address these issues on a global basis," said Melinda Merck, DVM. "These on-demand courses are taught by recognised experts in their field, providing the essential education to address the roles that a veterinarian or nurse might encounter."

Vetacademy is a user-friendly digital platform, providing the whole practice team with the ability to select from more than 300 courses from the world’s leading training and CPD providers. It is a service offered by Vetstream, a leading provider of digital services to the veterinary profession and recently appointed a Global Educational Partner of the World Small Animal Veterinary Association.

Commenting, Dr G Mark Johnston, Managing Director of Vetstream, said: "An increase in animal-related investigations has created a greater demand for veterinary expertise in this area as we know from our involvement with and support for The Links Group, a charity which assists veterinary staff in the investigation of domestic abuse and other criminal activity which involves animals.

"These modules are aimed at vets, nurses and students with an interest in veterinary forensics or who may be required to serve as an expert witness in court. They complete a unique series which offers an in-depth view of all of the issues from some of the world's leading experts."

In addition to Vetacademy, Vetstream offers a range of digital services to the veterinary profession. They include Vetlexicon, the world's largest online clinical veterinary reference tool, offering comprehensive, peer-reviewed digital point-of-care information on the veterinary treatment of dogs, cats, rabbits and horses, together with Vetstream Webpartner which offers a suite of website design, online content and digital marketing services designed specifically for the veterinary profession.
