Each month Petplan hosts a prize draw for all animal charities who have issued free insurance with Petplan and one charity is selected at random to receive a £500 donation from the prize fund. The money will be spent on kennel enrichment equipment to improve the lives of the dogs who are awaiting new homes. Paul Dunne from Merseyside Dogs Home commented: “The kind donation from Petplan will allow us to further support the 92 dogs we currently have in our care with more food, toys and treats. All the dogs we rehome have a history of neglect, and the additional treats will go a long way to enriching their lives and general well-being.” Merseyside Dog’s Home took over the running of the business from the RSPCA four months ago and is currently the only dog’s home in Merseyside. The charity takes in around 4,000 dogs a year, and aren’t picky about the dogs they take, believing every dog deserves a good home. Isabella Von Mesterhazy, Head of Marketing at Petplan highlighted: “At Petplan we work with over 1,700 animal charities, more than any other insurer. We understand the challenges animal charities face and give over £2 million each year to help rehoming organisations look after more pets.” Isabella continues: “Providing rehomed animals with 4 weeks’ free pet insurance helps adopters cover the cost of unexpected veterinary treatment during those precious first weeks whilst the new pet settles into its new home. It also offers peace of mind for charities; uninsured animals are more likely to be returned to the rehoming centre if they are ill or injured, or alternatively the adopter may ask for help covering the cost of veterinary treatment, - both of which divert resources away from helping other animals.” To find out more about Petplan’s support available for animal charities visit www.petplancharity.co.uk.
