The company's ground-breaking Dechra Academy, celebrating its first anniversary, has seen veterinary professionals registered complete more than 18,900 hours of CPD through the dedicated online resource. The Dechra Academy was launched in December 2010 in a two-fold response to the veterinary profession's thirst for ongoing professional development and Dechra's commitment to supporting vets and vet nurses. And in a further innovative move designed to boost the company's online engagement with veterinary professionals, Dechra has become one of the first in its sector to develop a Twitter news stream. Sharon Sheridan, Digital Marketing Executive, said: “We're delighted with the success of the Dechra Academy which was created following discussions with veterinary professionals about how we could help not just them, but their staff, practices and ultimately the animals they care for. “The Dechra Academy brings to together the latest thinking on a range of clinical conditions, providing up to the minute training, tips, tools and case studies to help spread best practice. “Over the last year, it has developed to include webinars from key opinion leaders and information on CPD events happening across the country, all combined with a 24/7 free online resource where veterinary professionals can learn in their own time while fulfilling CPD requirements.” Since launch, 3,682 certificates have been awarded to vets and vet nurses who can access all of the Academy's resources by registering through the Dechra website at www.dechra.co.uk Mrs Sheridan added: “We understand that veterinary professionals are busy, working long and unpredictable hours, and the Academy has been designed with this in mind. By offering online courses with personalised certificates, as well as the opportunity to download technical information for their practices and information about our products, Dechra is committed to providing a high level of support to help vets care for their patients.” Dechra is also embracing social media to engage with the profession, being one of the first companies in the animal health sector to develop a Twitter stream. Using the @Dechra Twitter handle, the updates focus on assisting vets and vet nurses by providing links to clinical case studies, reference material, diagnostic information and the CPD courses offered by the Dechra Academy. Topics online range from fluid therapy for equine and small animals to feline hyperthyroidism as well as a module on canine hyperadrenocorticism (Cushing's syndrome) which features new information on the use of diagnostic imaging.
