EkoTek system ensures vital medical teams are rapidly summoned in life or death situations
Multitone, a manufacturer of communication systems for critical communications today announces it has supplied its EkoTek system to Davies Veterinary Specialists (DVS) in Hertfordshire, UK. The installation provides DVS with a rapid and reliable way to contact medical and surgical teams in critical situations and works in conjunction with its existing pager system.
Account Manager at Multitone, Clark Peacock explains, “DVS needed a system that was not only rapid but also simple to use, EkoTek is primarily used as an emergency alert system but we offered DVS a bespoke version which precisely addresses the needs of a busy specialist veterinary centre of excellence.”
Diagnostics Supervisor at DVS, Becky Hitcham explained, “Before using the original paging solution the team used a tannoy system which also operated via our internal phone system. However the tannoy system only worked in certain parts of the converted farm buildings that make up our site and sometimes it would be a bit muffled and unclear - making it difficult to understand what the message was. We had no way of differentiating what was a critical call-out as opposed to a general meeting request and subsequently had no confidence that the emergency crash team would attend. We wanted a system that would provide a reliable and rapid way of contacting the right person or team wherever they were on site.”
In close consultation with DVS and its staff that use and rely on the pager system, Multitone recommended it supplement it with nine units of its EkoTek system and supporting infrastructure. Becky explained, “The EkoTek product was introduced to us to run alongside our existing paging infrastructure to deal with emergency situations. Traditionally used in an emergency in hospitals, Multitone adapted it to use in our veterinary practice. It’s perfect, now it only takes the nursing staff a second to press the button and they can then get on with dealing with the patient knowing confidently that the message has gone to everybody on the crash team and we can be sure that the right support is on its way.”
DVS uses fixed EkoTek call points in all the main locations around the practice including ICU, the main kennels area, X-ray, MRI, CT, ultrasound, endoscopy and all operating theatres. Becky concludes, “We are delighted with the improvements Multitone has enabled for our business. The improvements have made a huge difference to our emergency response, benefitting the patients in getting the right people there in a timely manner.. As the practice continues to evolve and grow we will continue to work with Multitone to provide support and expand our current paging system.”1965 views
