A Nurses' Certificate in Small Animal Nutrition has been launched by Improve International in response to requests from nurses in a survey conducted by the company. It aims to help nurses with an interest in nutrition to increase the depth and range of their knowledge with modules including:Improve International is one of the UK’s leading veterinary training companies with a 16 year track record in providing continuing professional development (CPD) to veterinary professionals. Its postgraduate programmes are accredited by the European School of Postgraduate Veterinary Studies (ESVPS) and validated by Harper Adams University. The Nurses' Certificate in Small Animal Nutrition will take its first students in March 2015. The Certificate will be taught over three two-day residential sessions at Improve's headquarters near Swindon during the year. "The central role of nutrition in overall health is increasingly recognised with respected bodies such as the World Small Animal Veterinary Association recommending that a nutritional assessment should be included as the fifth vital assessment at each patient visit ," explains David Babington BVetMed MRCVS, Managing Director of Improve International. "However, with so much contradictory and inaccurate information available online, owners are crying out for proper and impartial nutritional advice from their veterinary team. This represents a great opportunity for nurses with an interest in nutrition to develop a specific and valuable role for themselves and their practice. "In the survey we undertook, nutrition was by far the most requested topic for a Nurses' Certificate so we're delighted to be launching it now and look forward to welcoming our first students next year." Improve International was founded in 1998 by veterinary surgeons from across the UK, including a number of recognised experts. Based in Swindon, it provides high quality CPD in a range of formats for veterinary surgeons, veterinary nurses, receptionists and practice managers to help them develop their skills and knowledge, using a combination of review lectures, case-based discussion and where, applicable, hands-on practical sessions.
