Internal abscesses caused by ingested wire are a common cause of sickness in cows. Vetsonic UK, a leading animal husbandry products distributor, has launched a new half-cage magnet that can be easily administered, promises a longer working life and offers greater protection to the animal.
“The new Vetsonic Rumen Magnet contains a very powerful 5-part magnet in a half-cage design. This design exposes far more of the magnet than the traditional construction so that it does not become quickly clogged and has a longer working life, therefore collecting more metal,” said Kimmo Atkinson, Vetsonic Sales Director. The Vetsonic Rumen Magnet can be administered using existing applicators and the company recommends a flexible applicator to minimise the chance of oesophagus damage.
The magnets represent excellent value when compared to the potential cost of veterinary bills or even cattle death. “We recommend that livestock owners regularly check for degrading tyres in silage clamps as this the primary source of wire in cattle feed. The less metal in the feed means the magnets can offer protection for longer, maximising herd health and therefore profitability,” said Mr Atkinson.2718 views
