Vets in front of scanner North Downs Specialist Referrals (one of the biggest veterinary referral hospitals in the UK) are the first small animal practice in the UK to invest in the GE Vivid E9 from Imaging Specialists BCF Technology. The Vivid E9 is the leading 4D cardio-vascular ultrasound system for referral hospitals. The system is specifically designed for cardiac 4D imaging but produces the highest quality 2D images offering outstanding spectral, colour and tissue Doppler quality imaging NDSR invested in the Vivid E9 because they wanted to gain the very best image quality for their busy cardiology case load. In addition to phased array cardiac probes they have also purchased a transesophageal (TOE) probe in order to be able to scan patients whilst undergoing interventional cardiac surgery. This echocardiography method allows for the most accurate assessment of congenital heart disease during the procedures performed to correct them (most commonly transvenous occlusion of patent ductus arteriosus and balloon valvuloplasty of pulmonic stenosis). TOE probes are essentially an endoscope with a very small ultrasound probe on the end which produces high resolution cardiac images from the oesophagus. Simon Dennis, European and RCVS Recognised Veterinary Specialist from NDSR commented, “The Vivid E9 is the flagship cardiovascular ultrasound machine. Out of all the machines that we tried when looking for a new machine, this had by far the most superior image quality in terms of 2D and Doppler imaging. That’s not a surprise as this was the first cardiovascular system that was built specifically for 4D imaging. The Vivid E9 really enhances our ability to diagnose our patients, the image quality is far superior to anything that we’ve used, and that is out there. Both Joao and I have previously used the Vivid-i and the Vivid 7 and this is a real step up on both those systems.” By investing in the latest ultrasound technology, NDSR are staying at the forefront of industry technology. The capabilities of this system will allow them to perform advanced procedures and offer the highest level of patient care.
